WHY LOGGER RESCUE….

The unique and adverse conditions associated with logging injuries necessitate that loggers be prepared to take action to reduce the severity of a victim's injuries and increase his chances of survival. Logger Rescue training does the one thing that most loggers do not do- practice accident response to develop the skills and mental preparedness necessary to effectively deal with logging accidents.

Logger Rescue was founded in Berlin, NH in 1987 to meet the needs of the forest products industry, to help educate those people who fall under the guidelines of OSHA regulations 1910 & 1928. Logger Rescue training educates individuals to comply with the education of First Aid and CPR, as well as equipment needed to affect the management and care of those injured. While learning the necessary equipment needed, the trainees also learn what to do in the event of an emergency and how to mitigate the scene of an accident.

In 1994, an Advanced Logger Rescue course was designed to further educate the industry in how to become the rescuers, until local fire and EMT’s arrive, to protect both the patient and the rescuers from becoming victims themselves. This is an eight-hour course that is taught in the woods, using logging equipment. Once participants have received this training, they become a member of the A.L.E.R.T. FIVE-Rescue Team.

Currently we have trained hundreds of loggers, foresters and industrial specialists in Logger Rescue. Many participants return yearly to gain more insight and obtain updates in technology and techniques. One logger recently relayed the story to Dana about a logging accident that took his brothers life. He stated that if he had attended this class before the accident had occurred, he felt he could have made a difference in saving his brother's life.

We have several major companies from private sector logging contractors to major insurance companies that either contract with us directly or help offset the cost of the course by being a major sponsor for the program. The evaluations of the training have been positive with many participants stating that they leave the class feeling much more capable of handling an emergency situation should one arise.

You can contact Dana to schedule a course in your area and become certified as a member of the A.L.E.R.T. FIVE-Rescue Team. He is currently conducting classes throughout the United States. Dana understands the importance of this program and is willing to travel to ensure others receive this training.
